The Why
As a mom of two small boys I found myself searching for a creative outlet that involved more than Crayolas and building train tracks. Although I've always enjoyed baking, I found myself really taking pleasure in decorating my boys' birthday cakes each year. Each cake became a challenge to myself. I would stay up until the wee hours of the morning making sure each detail was just right. When the opportunity came for me to take some cake decorating classes I embraced it with great excitement. I did my best to take in everything I was being taught along with doing research and practicing on my own. When my cousin called me and asked if I would consider making her wedding cake it was as if a light came on in my life. Here was the creative outlet that I had so desperately been seeking! I had my kitchen licensed by the PA Department of Agriculture and soon thereafter, Cake Creations by Hillary was born.
When asked what detail I'd like most to share with potential customers, it is this - When you choose me to make your cake for you, your vision becomes my vision. It is truly my goal that each cake that goes out of my kitchen is unique and exciting! It goes without saying that it must be delicious, too! I obsess over details until I get everything just right. I like to imagine someone's reaction when they receive the particular cake that I am working on. If the cake isn't smile-worthy then I continue to work on it until it is.
One day while conversing with my neighbor at the bus stop one morning, she told me that her 3 year old son had been at the computer with her while she was browsing Facebook. He saw a picture of some spider cupcakes that I had made for a customer and he WANTED one of those cupcakes! It just so happened I had some leftover cupcakes in the house and I whipped one up to take to him at the bus stop that afternoon. When I gave him the cupcake his eyes grew big and he gasped and said, "Oh! Oh my! This is what I wanted! Thank you, thank you! You make my life HAPPY!!"
That, I would have to say, pretty much sums up my mission. As the owner and chief cake maker (okay, only cake maker) at Cake Creations by Hillary, it is my goal to make your life happy!
